Sermon Sunday, February 3, 2013

In grade nine my pal Hussein and I were best buddies. Our whole world at that point was about girls and getting big muscles to attract them. We spent hours working out. But when that ‘interest’ became less important, the friendship seemed to slip away. That ‘glue’ wasn’t enough to keep us together.

What are your friendships based on? What holds you and your friend together through the highs and lows, the months and years? How about this question; what is your relationship with God based on? If it’s about coming to church, a favourite pastor, certain songs or the wafer cookies, that may not be enough glue. Here’s the glue that Jesus used for a forever bond for us: the Covenant Love of God. Never heard of it? Listen in.

Sermon, February 3, 2103 – Andrew Allison Isaiah 42

Isaiah 42 – Study Questions

1) Think about your friendships, what keeps them together?

2) What does it mean ‘a bruised reed he will not break, a smoldering candle he won’t snuff out?’ Does that have any power in your life?

3) Verse 6 says that Jesus will be our covenant. What is a covenant? How did Jesus become that for us?

4) What does it mean to you that God is able to tell the future? v. 9 “Before they spring into being, I announce them to you.”
