Sermon Sunday May 19, 2013

Whoever wants to embrace life
and see the day fill up with good,
Here’s what you do:
Say nothing evil or hurtful;
Snub evil and cultivate good;
run after peace for all you’re worth.
God looks on all this with approval,
listening and responding well
to what he’s asked;
But he turns his back
on those who do evil things.

Sermon, May 19, 2013 – Liz Honeyford 1 Peter 3:8-22

Study Questions: 1 Peter 3:8-22

  1. Put vs 9 in your own words.  Can you give examples of repaying evil with blessing?
  2. 1 Peter 3: 15-16  gives four instructions: Focus on Jesus, be ready to give an answer, reply with gentleness, keep a clear conscience. Which of these four do you need to prioritize in your situation?
  3. Meditate for a few minutes on this verse: “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.”  Now imagine (1) your sins, (2) your unrighteousness, and (3) your reconciliation with God. Each of these ideas is awesome! Which of these aspects has God impressed most strongly on you today? How does this make a difference in how we treat others?
